The Central Bank of Brazil issued the second set of reals on February 3, 2010, with face values of 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100.
Coins are: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 cents
Real is a legal tender unit used in Brazil since 1994. It is a transliteration name in Portugal and is commonly known as "real" in English. It is issued by the Central Bank of Brazil, with the international code being BRL and the currency symbol being R$.

In August 2020, the Central Bank of Brazil launched a new version of banknotes with a face value of 200 reais. This measure aims to further optimize the monetary system and ensure the continuous renewal and circulation of money.
On May 13, 2025, the People's Bank of China and the Central Bank of Brazil signed the "RMB/Real Bilateral Currency Swap Agreement" with a renewal scale of RMB 190 billion/Brazilian Reals 157 billion. The agreement is valid for five years.
